Love Island 2022: Liam Llewellyn is compared to previous contestant as fans jokingly accuse show of 'recycling' Liams

It's a big day for fans of Love Island, as the official line-up for this year's series is finally being released on social media and one of the two Welsh contestants is already being talked about ahead of the show's launch next week, on June 6.

So far, the confirmed Welsh contestants are Swansea paramedic Paige Thorne, and Newport student Liam Llewellyn; both of these South Wales residents will be heading into the villa next week. But some fans have made jokes at the expense of Liam and an islander who previously appeared on the programme.

The full line-up has not yet been released, as it is being slowly trickled through to fans throughout the day via the official Love Island Twitter account. You can keep up-to-date with that, here.

Last year's series saw the return of Love Island after a year off due to Covid-19. For Welsh fans of the show, the 2021 edition was huge as Merthyr Tydfil bricklayer Liam Reardon won the show alongside Millie Court - the couple are still together now.

After the success of last year's Welsh Liam, fans of Love Island have joked that the summertime show is 'recycling' Welsh Liams, as there have now been two of them in consecutive years. Branding Liam Llewellyn 'Welsh Liam 2.0', fans of the show have been voicing their opinions on the new cohort of Islanders, and they have not spared Master's student Liam from being the butt of their jokes.

On Twitter, Ryan enthused: "Another Welsh Liam OMG!!!!! How crazy. Welcome to the show Liam - let's see if you're more loyal then last year's Welsh Liam. The producers are big on the Welsh contestants this year but that's ok because Welsh people are friendly and I love the accent too."

"Still recovering from the last Liam." said N.

RealityBells said: "Free Love Island from the bondage of Welsh Liams."

Meanwhile, Ollie joked: "we recycling welsh liams now?". Manu said: "Recycling Welsh liams now"

22-year-old Liam Llewellyn was the fourth Islander to be announced today ahead of this year's series. The Master's student has admitted that he hopes to win over some hearts by dishing plenty of compliments out.

Ahead of jetting out to Mallorca, the soon-to-be-star said: "The thing that girls quite like is that I’m not just like, 'You’re mint.' I’m like, 'Your eyes are piercing, I’m lost in your eyes.' Or I’ll say something like, 'You’ve got nice feet' or something."

Liam is hoping to form a connection with someone quite early on in the show. The Newport resident said: "I think 22 is a really nice age to meet someone, you’ve got your years ahead of you so you have time to experience stuff and grow together. I think Love Island is a great opportunity to meet someone, you’re in with a load of different types, so you can get to grips with what you really like about people."

After joking that his mum would describe him as a 'little sh**', the student said: "I’m a good kid, she knows that. They’d probably say quite generous, quite caring, happy, chatty, chirpy, bubbly.

"I wear my heart on my sleeve, I can’t hide how I feel about anyone. I’m probably quite emotional as well come to think about it."
