Lout brandished pizza cutter in Jarrow pub in front of shocked customers before damaging door

A drunken lout was kicked out of a Jarrow pub after brandishing a pizza cutter before going on to cause damage to the front door.

Christopher Hillock was ejected from the Ben Lomond pub on Grange Road West after he was seen by customers waving around a pizza cutter and swearing. The 36-year-old, who'd drank a "significant amount" of booze was then "disarmed" by another patron before he was kicked out of the bar.

After being locked out of the premises, Hillock then went on to punch and kick the bar's front door, causing around £200 worth of damage before finally being arrested. He was jailed after appearing at Newcastle's Moot Hall on Monday to be be sentenced for criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

Vincent Ward, prosecuting, said Hillock had gone to the Ben Lomond pub shortly before 6.30pm on December 22 last year. It wasn't long before staff were notified of Hillock's behaviour in the pub, and he was seen waving around a pizza cutter and shouting "f*** off".

Another customer then disarmed Hillock and he was ejected from the bar. After the doors were locked, Hillock returned and punched and kicked a door, causing around £200 damage, the court heard.

Jennifer Coxon, defending, said that Hillock had attempted to address his alcohol misuse and has "significant difficulties" with it. She said: "He accepts he had a long term negative relationship with alcohol and over the last 18 months things have started to slip. He can't pin point where things are going wrong."

Ms Coxon added that Hillock, who suffers from depression, had originally intended to use the pizza cutter to self harm, saying: "He left the house with the pizza cutter to harm himself. He then went in to the pub and consumed a significant amount of alcohol...it was not his intention to behave in that way at the start of the night."

Sentencing Hillock, of Rollox Street, Hebburn, Recorder Khan jailed him for six months.
