A Louisiana University student was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill Gov. Jeff Landry on social media because he requested the university display a live Bengal tiger during last week's football game.
"I am going to kill you @JeffLandry," Jackson Pemberton, a 21-year-old animal activist and LSU student, wrote in a since-deleted X post on Tuesday.
Pemberton was arrested later that day at an off-campus apartment complex.
"Pemberton stated that he was upset with the governor's decision regarding the live tiger that was brought on the LSU football field this previous weekend," the arrest warrant said, according to Louisiana Illuminator. "Pemberton further stated disagreement with the governor's decisions. Pemberton stated he did not wish to harm the governor and that the post was made as a joke."
The LSU student was charged with one count of threatening a public official, which comes with a $500 fine and/or up to six months in prison.
