Louise McSharry's fresh start with brand new podcast after 2FM exit

Louise McSharry, who finished up her role at RTE 2FM last year after 11 years at the radio station, has announced that she will be releasing a brand new podcast.

The former RTE presenter shared the news on social media, telling fans that the first episode of Catching Up With Louise McSharry will be available to listen to this Friday.

In a short audio clip, Louise told her followers that the podcast will be about current events and culture.

"Each Friday, I'll do my best to catch you up on the week's news and culture, from the lowest of brows to the relatively high," she said.

"With the help of experts and relevant guests, I'll be taking you through the week's events and I'll be armed with recommendations too for books, telly and anything else that's impressed me."

Catch Up With Louise McSharry will be available to listen to wherever you get your podcasts.

Louise announced that she was being let go from her presenting role at RTE 2FM last October.

RTE 2FM boss Dan Healy defended the station earlier this year after Louise said she was left "feeling like trash" after being let go.

Dan said of the presenter's comments: "This is the nature of this. And unfortunately it is tough.

“They chose to be personalities on stations like 2FM, and these are short contracts, and in most cases we give people quite a lot of notice when there are changes. We do our best, we really respect the talent.”

Louise responded to Dan's comments on Twitter, explaining: "I was told on Tuesday my contract was not being renewed.

"I was told they would follow my lead in terms of announcement, but that I needed to keep it a secret in the meantime. That day I submitted the statement I planned to release and said I wanted to do it on Friday.

"The response was very slow, and eventually I was told they wanted me to wait a further week. This meant that I would a) have to be alone with this news, b) do my show that weekend and have planning meetings with my team, who were totally unaware, pretending everything was normal."
