Former EastEnders star Louise Jameson is set to join the cast of Emmerdale.
The soap star, 70, will take on the role of Mary, Rhona Goskirk’s no-nonsense mum, with her on-screen daughter, played by Zoe Henry, having been on the soap since the early 2000s.
When Mary arrives, she’ll burst onto the scene at a critical point in her daughter’s life.

Rhona and Mary share a tense dynamic, as Rhona never felt as though she was good enough for her mother, so it will be intriguing to see if the pair can work to strengthen their mother-daughter relationship.
However this isn’t the first time the stars have been on the Yorkshire Dales as the actress previously appeared in four episodes of Emmerdale Farm – as it was known then – in 1973, playing Sharon Crossthwaite, a cousin of Annie Sugden.

Her character was killed off brutally on the soap, with Sharon raped and murdered by Jim Latimer played by Myles Reitherman, who was arrested and received a life sentence.
Laura Shaw, a producer on Emmerdale, said that they are “absolutely thrilled to welcome Louise to Emmerdale”.
She said: “It’s great to have such a high calibre and talented actor join our already strong team and she will be a fabulous asset to the show”.
“Intelligent, witty and complex, Mary promises to be a force to be reckoned with in the village and for Rhona, there won’t ever be a dull moment whilst her domineering mother is around”.
Louise has played a variety of roles on TV and on stage however is best-known for starring as Leela in Doctor Who and Rosa Di Marco in EastEnders.
