Louis Vuitton launches make-up with Dame Pat McGrath at the helm

Louis Vuitton, the French luxury powerhouse renowned for its monogrammed goods and iconic trunks, has announced the long-anticipated launch of its make-up line - La Beauté Louis Vuitton - with legendary British make-up artist Pat McGrath at the helm as creative director.

Arriving nearly a decade after the brand’s elegant return to fragrance under the master perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud (its initial olfactory foray dates back to 1946), the make-up collection will debut in autumn 2025.

As today’s announcement (5 February 2025) made waves, McGrath was deep in the backstage frenzy of fashion week, having already crafted looks for no fewer than 15 Autumn/Winter 2025 shows this season. A long-time collaborator of Louis Vuitton, she has been shaping beauty behind the scenes of its runway presentations for more than 20 years.

“I have been creating make-up looks for Louis Vuitton for many years,” McGrath said in a statement. “People have been asking me… When is make-up coming for Louis Vuitton? Now I can finally say it’s happening.” “The beauty universe is about so much more than just product, and what we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty.”

Details of the upcoming reveal remain intentionally scarce, but reports suggest that the line will debut with eight eye palettes, ten lip balms, and 55 lipsticks. It is also said that the collection will include a curated selection of leather goods - lipstick cases and mini trunks - designed to house the range. This comes perhaps as little surprise, given Louis Vuitton’s long-standing celebration of beauty rituals through its vanity cases, pouches, and perfume trunks. The maison’s archives still hold a bespoke beauty kit and toiletry case crafted circa 1925 for opera singer Marthe Chenal and composer Jan Paderewski, and one can be sure that this rich heritage has, and will continue to inform the evolution of La Beauté Louis Vuitton.

Equally, it is safe to say the new line will chart a distinctly different course from McGrath’s own, much-lauded eponymous beauty brand, Pat McGrath Labs. Launched in 2015 to rapturous applause, it is synonymous with high-impact, editorial-inspired make-up.

We can’t wait to see what unfolds.
