Louis Tomlinson says it would be a ‘shame’ if One Direction didn’t reunite amid rumours

Louis Tomlinson has addressed whether a One Direction reunion is in the pipeline during an appearance on ITV ’s Lorraine on Thursday morning.

The 30-year-old said a reunion is likely on the card “one day” as speculation recently spiked when Zayn Malik posted a video singing One Direction hit Night Changes.

Zayn posted a black and white video on Instagram singing an a cappella version of Night Changes from the band’s fourth album, sending fans into a frenzy.

On whether a band reunion is coming, Louis said: “One day. There’s a lot of moving parts, but it would be a shame if we didn’t. It would be a shame if we didn’t.”

Lorraine suggested they all come together for a really big event and Louis said: “I hope so”.

The dad of six-year-old Freddie also touched on the incredible One Direction phenomenon, saying: “It’s easier to see now from the outside looking in, definitely.

“It was a crazy, crazy time. Amazing to be able to go through it with other people, it would have been quite scary to go through that experience on your own at that age.”

Lois then went on to discuss his upcoming second studio album and how it’s different to his debut album.

He revealed: “It was a bit of a process on my first record - there was an element of trial and error.

“Obviously coming out of a band the size of One Direction, it takes time to find yourself, musically, but I really think I’ve found it on this album and this single.”

Lorraine said it’s an optimistic record and Louis replied: “That was a conscious decision.

“On my first record, there was a weight to it emotionally which I think was right for the time but I just wanted to break loose from that now and be optimistic.”

Lorraine added: “That’s where you are in yourself,” and Louis replied: “Exactly,” saying he had the chance to “ declutter his brain” during the coronavirus lockdown.

He said: “Everyone’s experience is individual. For myself, I spend a lot of my life thinking about what the next thing is. And there’s always an element of pressure in my life, which I’m used to.

“What was great about that time was it gave me a chance to declutter my brain and really think about the next record, and what do I want it to sound and feel like?

“If I didn’t have that time to reset, it may well have been a different record, so I feel happy to have that time.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
