Louis Rees-Zammit dropped for Wales v England Six Nations clash in bombshell selection call

Louis Rees-Zammit has missed out on selection for Wales' Six Nations clash with England after being dropped from Wayne Pivac's starting line-up.

WalesOnline understands the winger will not be involved in the matchday 23 - we've taken a look at the in-depth omission reasons here - and, as a result, has been released back to his club Gloucester for their weekend clash with Premiership league leaders Leicester Tigers.

Any England-based players are required to return to their club sides if not involved in the matchday squad, as is the case with Rees-Zammit.

With Josh Adams having recovered from injury, it now seems likely that he will take his place in the side alongside winger Alex Cuthbert.

Have your say on the decision to omit Rees-Zammit in the comments section here.

Despite the impressive performance of Ospreys winger Cuthbert against Scotland in his first Six Nations start in five years, this is still quite a selection bombshell from Wayne Pivac.

While Rees-Zammit hasn't recently hit the heights he previously hit last year, his place in the squad had looked relatively assured until recently.

However, Pivac has seemingly seen fit to dispense with his services to deal with the threats of Eddie Jones' England.

Taulupe Faletau is also in line to start in the back-row, with Pivac ready to throw the Bath No. 8 straight back into the fold alongside Ross Moriarty and Taine Basham.

There could also be changes on the bench, with Kieran Hardy and Gareth Anscombe in line for replacement roles.

Wales name their team to face England on Thursday morning.
