Louis Rees-Zammit and his family are mourning the death of his grandfather Joseph Zammit.
The beloved father and grandfather died on January 23 aged 88 and his funeral took place on Tuesday, February 15.
The service was held at St Mary's Church in Cardiff before proceeding to Thornhill Crematorium.
Joseph Zammit was the Wales international's paternal grandfather who emigrated to the UK from Malta.
"RIP Grampy Joe," Rees-Zammit wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
Rees-Zammit took to the field for Wales in their Six Nations opener against Ireland in Dublin at the turn of February, just days after receiving the sad news.
Mr Zammit is reported to have emigrated to London from Malta, followed by Cardiff and then Liverpool.
His son Joe, who dabbled in American football at Cardiff Bay Tigers, is father to the Wales and Lions star and his brother Taylor. Their mum, Maxine, played netball for Wales.
It is through their grandfather's heritage that Louis' big brother Taylor actually turned out to represent Malta in international rugby during the autumn.
In October, Taylor was out in Ljubljana making his international debut for Malta against Slovenia.
Taylor, 24, who has played in the back row for Llandaff RFC, qualified for the Mediterranean island country through his paternal grandfather. The fixture marked Malta's first international match after more than two years of stoppage due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
