Louis Rees-Zammit went the length of the field with a broken boot to spark a sensational comeback win for Gloucester.
The Cherry and Whites became only the third club in Premiership history to triumph after trailing by 21 points at half-time.
On track for humiliation after their worst ever first half at home in the league, Gloucester caught fire only when Rees-Zammit lit the fuse.
“The momentum just changed from there,” Wasps boss Lee Blackett admitted after the Wales wing picked up the ball on his own line, two minutes after half-time, and ran it back.
Until then there seemed no chance of Gloucester emulating the feat of Harlequins and Wasps, both in 2021, in overturning 21-point plus deficits.
Gloucester were indescribably bad. If Wasps weren’t scoring the home side were kicking the ball back to them to have another go.
The visitors scored three converted tries, had one disallowed and butchered another.
There was barely a peep out of the Shed as Charlie Atkinson, Brad Shields and new signing Burger Odendaal went over inside half an hour.
The one-way traffic was not even disturbed by the loss of fullback Matteo Minozzi and flanker Brad Shields to serious injuries.
But then Rees-Zammit got the ball in his hands and everything changed.
The 21-year old scorched out of his own 22 and won a foot race to the far end - despite one of his boots being unlaced.
“Zam has got those moments in him,” said Gloucester boss George Skivington of a player scoring his 25th try in 41 Premiership appearances.
“He can produce something like that because he’s special - and sometimes you need that.
“The boys were better in the second half but it helps when you get the ball to Zam.”
So completely did that score change the mood that 30 minutes later the resurgent home side had their bonus point fourth try.
By then Wasps were down to 13 men, with two in the bin, and it was as much as they could do to cling onto a losing bonus point.
Asked what he said at half-time to fire the comeback, Skivington said: “I couldn’t tell you the tone in my voice, only that I didn’t go to the hairdryer.
“It wasn’t a complete car crash. The challenge more was that we’d had two months of pre-season working on this, this and this and it didn’t look like we had.
“I told them we need to back ourselves and show a bit more energy - and if it all falls down around us that’s okay, just as long as we go for it.”
They did that alright with Charlie Chapman and Freddie Clarke adding to a penalty try to complete a stunning turnaround.
