The latest Louie Barry transfer news has indicated that Championship high-flyers Leeds United have joined the race for the Aston Villa forward.
Barry has starred on loan at Stockport County in League One this season. In 19 appearances, the 21-year-old has netted an impressive 14 times and provided one assist.
It’s Barry’s second loan spell at Edgeley Park after he helped them to the League Two title in 2022/23. He was able to score 9 goals across 21 outings.
Parent club Villa are understood to be strongly considering recalling Barry. The Premier League side believe he should step up to a higher division for the remainder of the campaign.
That news alerted a whole host of Championship clubs. The likes of Coventry, Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Stoke City and now the Whites are all interested in Barry.
Louie Barry Transfer News Sees Leeds Join The Race
Owing to their strong league position, Leeds United can consider themselves one of the front runners to sign Louie Barry on a short-term loan deal.
Daniel Farke’s side lead the Championship table and can offer the chance for Barry to perform in front of one of the most passionate fan bases in the country.
Furthermore, Farke often rotates his forward line so Barry would likely secure enough game time. Something of which Aston Villa will be keen to stress when he does move on.
Playing with the likes of Dan James, Wilfried Gnonto and Largie Ramazani can have a lasting impact on Barry’s development before he makes the step up to the top-flight.
However, Middlesbrough are reported to be strongly interested. Teesiders boss Michael Carrick is understood to have already held talks with Villa.
With a whole host of second-tier suitors, Barry will have some choices to make. However, one things for sure is that Unai Emery certainly wants the best for Barry.
In 2019, Barry hit the headlines when he moved to Barcelona from West Brom and joined the club’s La Masia academy. In the process, becoming the first English player to ever do so.
Things didn’t really work out in Spain and Barry made the move to Villa Park. Now, a hot spell in the Championship will help increase his chances of making the big time.
