Lotus drummer and son feared dead week after going missing as band pray for miracle

Chuck Morris and his 20-year-old son are feared dead after going missing during a family trip last week.

A recovery effort has now been launched for the Lotus drummer, 46, and his son Charlie Morris after they disappeared during a kayaking trip in the Ozark Mountains.

The pair failed to return home after kayaking on Beaver Lake last Thursday, with Chuck's wife Jennifer Thompson then contacting the police.

Investigators spent days searching the area in the hopes of finding the father-son duo. On the first night of the search, the kayak they had used was found.

The following day, police found the drummer's hat and coat.

In a post shared by Lotus on Facebook, the band said they are now "hoping for a miracle".

"We were all hoping for a miracle, but at this point, the search for Chuck and Charley has moved to a recovery.

"With help from the K9 team, there is a probable location on the lake, but logistical challenges including temperature, weather, and depth have prevented a recovery thus far.

"It is unknown how long these efforts may take. While we are deeply grieving, we plan to celebrate Chuck and Charley's lives, our memories with them, and what they meant to so many people.

"Thank you to all who have reached out with fond words, stories, emotional and financial support."

Fans offered their support in the comments, with one person writing: "My heart breaks deeply for all affected. I'm so sorry."

"Heart wrenching. Love this band and this family so much. Here for anyone who needs anything through this. Lean on your people and cherish the memories," another wrote.

A third person added: "Absolutely devastating. It isn't logical, but my broken heart is still hoping so hard for a miracle. Endless love."

Chuck's wife Jennifer told ABC News that she believes the pair drowned after one fell into the cold lake and the other tried to rescue them.

"What saved me from the beginning of this is that they died together; they were together," she admitted, before adding that she misses her boys.

The family had travelled from Kansas City to Beaver Lake after Lotus finished a 25-city tour.

"We thought it would be a great idea for Chuck and Charlie to be able to get on the kayaks before a storm hit," Jennifer explained.

She said she had decided to go into town with their 12-year-old daughter instead. She said she began to panic when the pair failed to return home, eventually deciding to call the police.
