Lottery to move online as Ayr United urge fans to support new era

Ayr United are urging supporters to help their popular lottery grow as it makes the switch to the digital age.

The club's Five Star draw - formed in 1990 - is transferring fully online from the start of July.

Bosses hope the change in format can attract a new audience following a drop in numbers during Covid times.

The lotto's 2000 members are currently being given the chance to sign up to the new draw, which will be run via the Clubforce platform.

And new members from around the world can also throw their hat in the ring in pursuit of the £1000 jackpot.

United commercial manager, Martin Tocker, told the Ayrshire Post: "Unfortunately the numbers in the current lottery are such that the format is no longer viable.

"One of the biggest things at the moment is how much money we're paying out on a weekly basis.

"And once you start taking costs out of that, the sums don't add up.

"We fully appreciate that some members will miss the traditional methods of agents chapping the door and taking money out of their hands.

"But we also used to have bakers and milkmen coming to the door and that no longer happens to the same extent, so I don't see why Ayr United's lottery can't make that change too.

"It's very easy to sign up online and takes a matter of minutes to complete the form by filling in your name and address and your card details.

"If you win a prize it gets paid straight into your bank account and you can sign up for anywhere between five weeks and 52 weeks at a time.

"Ultimately we'd love to maintain as many of the 2000 members as possible and, not only that, grow the new lottery as well with access to a different audience online."

Select four numbers to enter the draw, which will be held each week and carry a jackpot of £1000.

If nobody matches four numbers, the jackpot rolls over by £250 each week until a winner is found.

Each month, all players who have taken part will also be entered into a cash prize draw to win a guaranteed £200.

Players can take part from anything from five weeks at a time, up to a year in advance.

A £7 discount is on offer for those who do pay annually.
