Lottery's luckiest jackpot winner ever after accidentally paying for ticket

A man thought he had missed out on a massive $169,000 (£140,000) jackpot after he failed to pay for his usual ticket, only to go on and win big the next day.

David Lewandowski failed to pay for his ticket after bungling the online payment - this meant he missed on his chance to win.

Instead, he decided to take part in the draw the following day and scooped an even bigger cash prize.

David won $218,000 (£182,000) thanks to his payment blunder.

He said: "I didn't complete the purchase until the next day. If I had paid attention and done it right the first time, I wouldn't have won."

He won the cash prize after picking a set of random numbers himself.

David matched all five winning numbers to take home the larger jackpot.

The lucky winner, who owns a window tinting business, claimed his prize at the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters on February 22.

David, who comes from the town of Mooresville in North Carolina, said he plans to use the money to buy an apartment in Puerto Rico.

He bungled on the draw on February 19 but then won on February 20.

Last month, a North Carolina teenager scooped over $200,000 (£166,000) on the lottery after buying only his third-ever ticket.

Cody Plemmons, 18, from North Carolina, US, purchased a $4 (£3) scratch card at a petrol station in Marshall while on his way to Tennessee.

He was purchasing some snacks and a drink for the road trip when he fancied a scratchcard and thought "why not."

Cody said: “We mainly stopped at the gas station for a drink and a snack. I honestly don't even know why I got one, I just thought ‘Why not’.”

His stop-off for a quick bite to eat paid off handsomely as he left the store with his sacks - and a huge cash prize in his pocket.

The teen said he was stunned when he scratched off the $200,000 prize - £166,282.

This was just the third lottery ticket purchase Cody had ever made and it turned out to be the best one yet.

He added: “I couldn't believe it when I won, this is only the third lottery ticket I've ever bought.”

A delighted Cody received his prize at the lottery company’s headquarters on 3 January where he picked up his jackpot.

After state and federal tax withholdings, he reportedly took home $142,501 (£118,448).
