Community ventures across the East Kilbride constituency have welcomed a £45,000 National Lottery funding boost.
The National Lottery Community Fund supports communities to thrive with funding from The National Lottery and five groups in East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow have recently been successful in securing a vital cash injection.
Frets Creative CIC received a £9800 grant and plan to use the funding to provide equipment to 20 volunteer presenters to allow them to produce and record their online content for broadcast on Strathaven's community radio station.
Lesmahagow Development Trust received a £9,998 grant which will fund a 12-month programme of community activities delivered in a range of community venues across Lesmahagow. This will include social, educational and recreational activities for everyone in the community.
St Andrew's Methodist Church East Kilbride received a £5592 grant. The church will use the funds to establish a community cinema with 12 screenings a year.
This project will be run by volunteers from the community and will provide a focal point for and a sense of cohesion to the local community.
The Haven at Vanguard received a £10,000 grant for renovation costs to improve their facilities.
This Strathaven-based group provide equine facilitated learning and a range of wellbeing and support activities targeted at military and emergency service personnel, and vulnerable and isolated people.
Victorious people counselling and CBT Ltd at Strathmore House in East Kilbride town centre received a £10,000 grant. This organisation will make counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy available to children and young people, free of charge at the point of delivery.
The National Lottery Community Fund distributes funding on behalf of National Lottery players who raise more than £30m each week for good causes throughout the UK.
Thanks to National Lottery players, last year over half a billion pounds (£588.2m) of life-changing funding was awarded to communities across the UK.
Over eight in ten (84 per cent) of grants are for under £10,000 – going to grassroots groups and charities across the UK that are bringing to life amazing ideas that matter to their communities.
