The Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), Janisse Quinones, has been assigned a 24/7 police security detail in response to threats made against her and water employees. This decision comes as wildfires continue to ravage Southern California.
The move to provide Quinones with a security detail was prompted by concerns raised by two Los Angeles police sources, who cited recent incidents, including the shooting of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York. Quinones, who reportedly earns $750,000 annually, has been under scrutiny for the city's fire preparedness and water distribution strategies during the ongoing wildfires.
The LADWP confirmed that threats had been directed at their employees, with specific incidents occurring at a DWP facility in downtown Los Angeles. The department emphasized that all threats and incidents are taken seriously and promptly reported to law enforcement. Security measures at LADWP facilities are not disclosed to ensure the safety of employees.
In a statement, the LADWP expressed unwavering support for its employees, highlighting their crucial role in the city's emergency response efforts. The department stressed that threats to the safety of its workforce are unacceptable and have no place in society or the city.
Quinones, who has previously emphasized her commitment to social justice and equity, continues to lead the LADWP through challenging times. As the wildfires persist, the department remains focused on ensuring the well-being of its employees and the community at large.
