Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass urged residents to heed evacuation orders as winds are forecasted to intensify once again. During a news conference on Saturday, Mayor Bass highlighted the importance of continued vigilance in the face of the ongoing wildfires.
While progress has been made in containing the fires, the Palisades area remains particularly susceptible to the potential escalation of winds. The Mayor emphasized the need for the presence of the National Guard and law enforcement to safeguard the community from both the fires and potential looting incidents.
Residents were advised to adhere closely to evacuation directives and not attempt to wait out the fires. Meteorologists have projected a significant increase in wind speeds, with single-digit numbers expected to rise to 20-30 mph overnight and into Sunday.
The upcoming week is anticipated to bring even stronger winds, with Monday through Wednesday identified as critical periods. Tuesday is expected to see peak wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph, posing heightened risks to the affected areas.
