Amid the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County, shelters have been set up to assist those impacted by the natural disaster. The Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, Carlos González, confirmed on Friday that aid is being offered to all individuals in need, regardless of their immigration status.
Speaking from a shelter located at the Pasadena Convention Center, Consul González emphasized that victims are being provided with essential support such as free housing, food, and medical care. He reassured the community that individuals with irregular immigration status are welcome to access the same services without any discrimination.
Furthermore, Consul González highlighted that Mexicans requiring assistance can reach out to the Mexican Consulate for support. Notably, Mexico has announced its commitment to sending firefighters and other professionals to Los Angeles to aid in combating the ongoing fires.
According to the Migration Policy Institute think tank, Mexican immigrants represent the largest demographic group in the United States, with approximately 10.9 million individuals residing in the country as of 2023.
The collaborative efforts between the shelters, local authorities, and international support demonstrate a unified response to the wildfires, prioritizing the well-being of all individuals affected by the crisis.
