A lorry driver has died after his vehicle crashed on a major road in Ayrshire.
The incident involving a Mercedes Actros HGV happened on the A77 near Kirkoswald at around 9am on Wednesday December 28.
A huge emergency response was sent to the road, including four road ambulances and an air ambulance, but the 53-year-old driver sadly died at the scene.
His family are aware of the tragedy, police said today. The road was closed and later re-opened to traffic around 12.30pm.
Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.
“In particular, we are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to make contact with officers.”
Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0702 of Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.42am to attend an incident on the A77 road near Kirkoswald. Four ambulances and our Helimed (air ambulance) were dispatched to the scene.”
