Lorry driver, 53, dies at scene of Ayrshire horror crash on A77

A lorry driver has died at the scene of a horror crash on the A77 this morning.

The 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the smash shortly after 9am this morning.

The driver, who was behind the wheel of a Mercedes Actros articulated large goods vehicle, crashed near Kirkoswald and the road was closed for almost four hours.

Police have confirmed that the driver's family have been made aware.

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that four ambulances and a helimed rushed to the scene.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

“In particular, we are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to make contact with officers.”

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0702 of Wednesday, December 28.
