Dr Hilary issued a warning to anyone who is aged over 65 and dating.
The medical professional appeared on ITV's Lorraine as he explained that there has been a huge surge in elderly people contracting STIs - mainly gonorrhoea.
He put the sudden increase down to a higher rate of divorce and separation. Dr Hilary added that the older generation are not as "sexually savvy" as younger people and may not be fully aware of the dangers of unsafe sex.

The doctor issued a warning as he said that over 65's can still "have fun" but must remain safe when doing so. It comes as Public Health England (PHE) previously noted the increase.
They blamed the rise on people not using condoms correctly, a growth in casual partners, and an increase in testing improving detection of the most common STIs.
Dr Gwenda Hughes, head of STI surveillance at PHE, said: "The rise in sexually transmitted infections is concerning. STIs can pose serious consequences to health - both your own and that of current and future sexual partners. No matter what age you are, or what type of relationship you are in, it's important to look after your sexual health.”
