Lorraine pays tribute to Phillip Schofield's career but viewers all make same joke

ITV presenter Phillip Schofield was on Lorraine this morning to celebrate the 40 years he has been on the broadcasting channel - but viewers noticed the lack of appearance from one of his ex co-stars on the channel.

Fans of Eamonn Holmes have criticised the daytime programme for their hour-long tribute to Phillip - not long after Eamonn's snub from the popular show, This Morning.

Eamonn has hit out at ITV over the weekend after he was axed from the programme, saying: "No one explained anything to me.

"I'm all for TV companies being able to choose who works for them, but it would be nice if you were told why you were going.

"They're sly. They didn't want to announce that I'd been dropped because it would adversely affect audience figures, so they made it look as if I'd walked away from them rather than the other way round."

People on Twitter were quick to point out the lack of tribute to Eamonn from the programme, with one tweet reading: "To get Fern saying something nice and pretty much everyone he’s worked with saying the same,yet nothing from Eamonn and Ruth is very telling about them I think. #Lorraine

Another Twitter user said: "They obviously ran out of time for the glowing tribute from Eamonn and Ruth #Lorraine."

More comments read: "Any tributes from Eamonn yet? #Lorraine", and "No well wishes from Eamonn and Ruth? #Lorraine."

And a further Twitter user said: "#Lorraine will we be hearing from Eamonn or Ruth?"

Lorraine invited many of Phillip's friends and family to pay tribute to the presenter live on air. (ITV)

ITV has since denied Eamonn's claims, putting out a statement that reads: "This isn't a version of events that we recognise and as we have said before, we wish Eamonn all of the very best.

"As we have laid out in our Diversity Acceleration plan, we are committed to improving representation both on and off screen and we publicly report on our progress against our commitments and targets."

A source close to the show has also stated that Eamonn and Ruth were made aware of plans to introduce Alison and Dermot as main presenters well in advance, and that Eamonn chose to leave for a new job.
