Lorraine Kelly supports Deborah James after ITV co-star gives tragic cancer update

Lorraine Kelly has showed her support to brave ITV colleague Deborah James after she revealed it was 'time to say goodbye,' her terminal cancer battle was coming to an end.

Deborah has been a regular on Lorraine's ITV show and the inspirations for its No Butts campaign, which aims to raise awareness about bowel cancer and get viewers to look out for any of the associated symptoms. Deborah, who is just 40, has been face of the campaign after she was diagnosed with stage four cancer five years ago, and last joined Lorraine sent in a video last month as the campaign was launched for another year.

Deborah was in ICU at the time, recovering from an infection and said: "I'm so sad not to be there at the launch of the No Butts campaign. But obviously, my health has had a bit of a ride recently - still in hospital. Actually, sitting outside on the balcony outside ICU but I'm getting better.

"However, I've sent my mum along because this year's campaign is going to be bigger and peachier than ever. We have pants and flags. We're flying the flag for bowel cancer all around the UK.

"And it's so important that we continue to raise awareness because ultimately if we stop it and catch it earlier, we can save lives. Thank you guys for being part of that and spreading the word."

On Monday, Deborah, who has also presented on the BBC took to Twitter to give a candid update about how things had deteriorated, posting: "The tweet I never wanted to write. The time has come to say goodbye. 5 years to prepare, doesn’t make it any easy. I’m under hospice at home care, & I’m spending my time surrounded by my family."

She urged people to 'buy her a wine, and help her raise funds for Cancer Research via her Bowel Babe fundraising site. And one of the many people quick to react to Deborah's post was Lorraine who shared it on her Twitter timeline and added: "Brave bright beautiful woman and her campaigning has saved lives. Honoured to know you lovely Deborah."
