Lorraine Kelly says she 'still hasn't processed' death of friend Deborah James

Lorraine Kelly has said she is finding the death of her friend Deborah James hard to come to terms with.

The Scottish TV presenter said that she "still hasn't processed" the death of Dame Deborah James who lost her life to bowel cancer at just 40 years old earlier this week. Paying tribute to the former headteacher on Wednesday, Lorraine fought back tears.

Today, the host explained that a new social media trend has started in memory of the cancer campaigner. People are "raising a glass for Debs" all across Instagram. Lorraine explained that everyone who loved and admired the late Dame should join in.

An image of Deborah's parents clinking their glasses appeared on screen. Lorraine said: "Dame Deborah James' parents their raising a glass in honour of their inspirational daughter. Now they're calling for pals of Deborah to do the same and everybody that loved her or admired her - all of us can do this.

"It's a new trend. It started on Instagram following her death earlier on this week, of course, which I still haven't processed to be honest. But shall we do this, for Deborah?"

Lorraine posed holding a glass for an image that would later be uploaded onto Instagram. The host added: "And we shall do that for our Deborah."

The mum-of-two, who launched a fundraising page called Bowel Babe to raise money for Cancer Research UK, was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer just before Christmas 2016, when she was aged 35. Dame Deborah died surrounded by her family on Tuesday, weeks after she confirmed she had stopped active treatment and was receiving palliative care at her parents’ home in Woking.
