Lorraine Kelly reveals truth behind suspicious package that sparked ITV evacuation

Lorraine Kelly spoke out on Friday over claims a "suspect package" addressed to her sparked the evacuation from ITV studios and the surrounding area on Thursday.

ITV pulled all daytime TV while the situation was ongoing, as This Morning went off air during transmission and an emergency episode was broadcast instead.

Loose Women also played past footage, with it soon revealed the studios had been evacuated over a possible bomb threat.

It was later reported that a package addressed to TV host Lorraine had sparked a security concern, and led to the evacuation with nearby train stations also closed.

On Friday, Good Morning Britain host Ben Shephard asked Lorraine on air about the incident and what really happened.

As he joked that it was all because of some underwear, Lorraine stepped in to explain what had really happened - confirming it was a package addressed to her.

She did confirm that there was nothing wrong with the item she had received, and the issue was down to a battery in the item.

Ben had asked: "Lorraine, were you responsible for the evacuation? I was reading the newspaper. What was it? A pair of suspicious underwear or something?"

Lorraine explained: "No it wasn't! So it was, apparently, so I am told, apparently somebody had sent... somebody from a film company had sent me a wee present.

"It had a battery in it. And when they x-rayed it, it looked a little suspicious. But it was all fine and it was all dandy. It is okay."

As Kate shared there was real worry about the news and what was happening, Lorraine confirmed it was nothing to worry about and it was "all fantastic".

Viewers were left concerned when This Morning suddenly went off air with no explanation, before ITV shared statements on Twitter.

A source close to Lorraine later claimed she was the intended recipient of a box which was picked up by the network’s security staff before it could reach her.

A source told The Sun: "Word quickly got around that whatever the box contained, it was addressed to Lorraine.

"Everyone at ITV loves her - so people were upset and very concerned over the whole incident. Fortunately everyone is safe, but it shakes everyone up."

A statement from the Metropolitan Police at the time read: "At 11:14hrs on Thursday, 10 March, police were called to reports of a security alert at Wood Lane, White City. It was reported a suspicious item had been discovered.

Meanwhile, ITV shared on both the This Morning and Loose Women Twitter accounts: "We apologise for the break in live programming today. We are currently running pre-recorded content and hope to be back with you soon."

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
