Lorraine Kelly has revealed she’s taking on a huge new career venture away from her popular ITV morning show.
The ITV host has announced she is set to release her debut novel, which will be published next year.
The presenter, 63, is a favourite on the morning telly circuit but has decided to dabble in fiction writing, telling how it feels like the “right time” to do so.
Titled The Island Swimmer, the book is due to be published on February 15 2024, by Orion Publishing.
She shared the exciting news in a video announcement on her Twitter on Monday.
“I’m really delighted to share with you the news of my debut novel,” she told fans.
“I’ve had such a brilliant time doing this. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. I always wanted to write fiction.
“And I just felt that this was the right time.”
Fans were quick to congratulate the telly personality on her new career venture.
Replying to her video announcement, one fan wrote: “Love it and from your description it sounds amazing.”
“Congratulations Lorraine. One for my list. Can’t wait to read it. Something I’ve always wanted to do but just don’t know where to start,” another said.
A third penned: “Congratulations Lorraine! Sounds a wonderful story. I hope you will narrate the audio version.”
“Oh wow congrats! Exciting! You’ve supported so many of us with our books, I hope it is a huge success. Will pre-order,” a fourth gushed.
The Island Swimmer tells the story of Evie, a woman who returns to Orkney after years away and struggles to reconnect with her family and community.
She finds herself taken in by a group of cold-water swimmers, a hobby that Lorraine enjoys.
“I wanted to bring my passion for that to the story as well, and really hope that you enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it,” she said.
Lorraine said the novel was inspired by her love of the Orkney Islands, which is “very much at the heart of the story”, and the book is now available for pre-order online.
