Lorraine Kelly reveals elderly mother Anne, 81, has been admitted to hospital in Scotland

Lorraine Kelly has revealed she’s been by her elderly mother’s bedside after she was admitted to hospital in Scotland.

The 63-year-old informed her social media followers that her 81-year-old mum Anne had been admitted into University Hospital Monklands, in Lanarkshire in recent days.

Sharing the news on Monday, the ITV daytime star tweeted: “Having spent a lot of time over the past few days with my mum in @UHMonklands hospital I’ve seen again just how kind, caring, hardworking, funny and downright fabulous our NHS workers are.

“Thank you doesn’t begin to cover it.”

The presenter didn’t go into further detail about her mother’s condition, although she was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome in February, a condition that stops the kidneys functioning properly which also saw her hospitalised.

After sharing the update, Kelly was inundated with messages of support from followers who shared their concern for her mother.

One penned: “Hope your mums ok sending love”.

“Hope you’re mums ok, and wishing her a speedy recovery,” another commented. “Sending you lots of love and hugs xx”.

While NHS Lanarkshire shared their thanks for the support: “Thank you Lorraine for your kind words. We will share your lovely comments with our staff.”

The Scottish broadcaster is currently on her summer break from her show, which Christine Lampard is currently covered.

Back in October, the TV presenter paid tribute to her mother and her youthful spirit as she discussed the pressure women face to delay ageing.

Speaking to Woman & Home, she said: “I’m lucky. My mum [Anne Kelly] looks incredible and I’ve inherited her skin and cheekbones.

“I’ve got wee patches of grey, but I’ve never done anything to my face. I’m too scared to do Botox. I’ve heard too many stories over the years where people have ended up looking like Klingons.”

“After gaining weight in lockdown, I’d become very unhappy with my size. Like most of the nation, I had been comfort-eating, not doing as much exercise as normal and my husband has no conception of portion.”
