Lorraine Kelly reacts as Meghan & Harry doc gets double views of The Crown in 24 hours

Netflix has revealed the staggering ratings for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new documentary that dropped last week on the streaming platform.

Lorraine Kelly sat down with former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tyler West on her ITV daytime show, to discuss the 'bizarre' news that Meghan & Harry got double the views of drama The Crown on its first day alone.

The documentary that explores the Duke and Duchess of Sussex relationship, as well as their decision to leave their royal duties behind and move to California was viewed by 2.4 million people in the first 24 hours.

Lorraine, who has been outspoken with her views on Megxit, began: “Now somebody else is very happy, is everybody who is an executive at Netflix as they’ve revealed the viewing figures for Meghan and Harry documentary.”

Tyler agreed that the rating were “incredible”.

“Bizarre. Absolutely bizarre," he added. "The next instalment drops on Thursday, so all eyes will be on Netflix of course, but it racked up an incredible 85.1 million hours for Netflix.”

Tyler then compared the figures from the first day of Meghan & Harry's release, to the first day of the extremely popular royal drama, The Crown, that debuted it’s fifth season in November.

“On its release day, day one, Meghan & Harry was watched by 2.4 million people,” Tyler added, as Lorraine replied: “That’s a lot.”

Tyler continued: “It is a lot, but just to put that into perspective The Crown got 1.1 million.”

The six-part documentary received mixed reviews from viewers, as some critics slammed the show, others praised the couple for speaking their truth.

The final three episodes of the documentary land on Netflix on 15 December (Netflix)

The final three episodes land on Netflix on Thursday 15 December, with the first three available to stream now.

Meanwhile, The Crown was criticised for embellishing several of the facts of the Royal Family’s life including a conversation between Prince Charles and John Major about wanting his mother to step down as monarch.

Earlier this week, Loraine called for Harry and Meghan to 'focus on their own lives' ahead of the release of part two of their documentary.

"I honestly, genuinely wish them all the best. But I think this has got to stop," she said on her daytime show.

"Once the book has come out, they can't just keep talking about [it.] They've got to then build their own life.

"What is it they want to do for themselves and for their kids? And how do they want to stay relevant?

"And for goodness sake, they've got-- they've got two gorgeous, healthy children."

Harry and Meghan proudly showed off unseen pics of their kids Archie and Lillibet in the new Netflix series.

Harry's family member have yet to respond to the documentary.
