Lorraine Kelly Left Red-Faced After ‘Fat Wardrobe’ Comment on GMB

Lorraine Kelly found herself in a rather sticky situation during her live crossover on Good Morning Britain when an innocent remark about wardrobes turned into an unexpected and hilariously awkward moment with host Ed Balls. The 65-year-old presenter, known for her warm and bubbly personality, was left blushing as her off-the-cuff comment caused a stir in the studio.

Lorraine had popped into the GMB studio to chat with Susanna Reid and Ed Balls about what was coming up on her show. The conversation took a turn towards wardrobe organisation, as Sort Your Life Out star Dilly Carter was set to appear later to share tips on decluttering. When the topic of unused clothes came up, Lorraine chimed in with a comment that instantly raised eyebrows.

“And looking at your wardrobe, how many clothes do you actually wear?” she remarked before elaborating, “You know the way that I’ve got a fat wardrobe and a thin wardrobe?” This prompted giggles from Susanna, who was clearly intrigued by the concept.

Curious, Susanna asked: “What’s a fat wardrobe and a thin wardrobe?” Lorraine, attempting to clarify, explained, “A fat wardrobe is like the kaftan-type things… you know, big things.” Susanna, still amused, listened as Lorraine went on, “You know when you’re feeling a bit fat.”

At this point, she turned to Ed, seemingly expecting him to relate, saying: “Ed knows what I’m talking about.” The room fell into a brief silence before gasps and laughter filled the studio.

Realising she might have landed herself in trouble, Lorraine immediately tried to backtrack, stumbling over her words: “Ohh no, I don’t mean that no… just because you’re a fashion…” But before she could finish, Ed took it all in good humour, playing along with her slip-up.

Jumping in to save the moment, he admitted: “I have a fat wardrobe and then I go on a diet and I try and use my thin wardrobe, when it doesn’t work I go back to my fat wardrobe.” Lorraine, relieved, responded: “Thank you! See, he looked me in the eye, and I just knew that he knew what I was talking about.”

But Ed wasn’t done just yet. With a mischievous grin, he confessed: “I’m bailing you out now. I don’t have a fat wardrobe, I just said that to avoid embarrassment.” Lorraine, now visibly flustered, attempted to compose herself as Susanna continued laughing in the background.

Trying to wrap things up and move on from the hilarious mishap, Lorraine insisted: “Boys do though, everybody does. Anyway, we’ll talk about that with Dilly Carter, who is back to Sort Your Life Out.”

As she prepared to leave, she sheepishly added: “I shall go away and think about what I’ve said.” Safe to say, viewers at home won’t be forgetting that moment anytime soon!
