Lorraine Kelly gives fans advice reminding them of the importance of 'me time'

Lorraine Kelly has given fans some good advice about New Year's resolutions and the importance of taking time for yourself.

Lorraine told Hello Magazine that we shouldn't worry beat ourselves up if we can't stick to our resolutions, but advised everyone to make it a goal to spend 5-10 minutes per day for 'me' time.

The 61-year-old advised fans that whether you spend time watching your favourite Netflix show, or reading a magazine, taking 5 minutes to yourself can make you feel uplifted.

The ITV breakfast presenter spoke about people being too hard on themselves coming into the new year, she wrote: "I think that's because instead of we all go at it hammer and tongs and it's just not sustainable.

"A silly faddy crash diet simply won't work."

She continued, "Likewise trying to run for five miles on your first day of keeping fit, or doing hours of intensive training in a gym, will end up making you disheartened or even result in an injury.

"Trying to stop smoking completely cold turkey without the proper help rarely works and again makes you miserable when you go back to those cigarettes.

"There's nothing wrong with New Year resolutions, but especially in these tough and uncertain times, we don't want to set ourselves up for failure. It's all about balance."

Lorraine shared this to social media, and told fans on Twitter to 'be kind to yourself'.

One fan replied: "You're a gem madam, beautiful video, beautiful words, beautiful you, means a lot to me what you said, & I believe to many people, agree with you 100%, be kind to yourself & others, fun fact: I like Hello too, thank you madam for such a inspiring video, keep shining always"

"If you are trying for #DryJanuary & have fallen off the wagon dont despair, just start again tomorrow. Don't let one slip turn into many, just jump back on that sobriety horse and forge onwards," another encouraged.

Someone else wrote: "100% I’m loving spending time with our 11 week old puppy, she really help to calm me"
