Lorraine Kelly has reassured fans after sparking concern with her appearance on Good Morning Britain and Loose Women. Viewers took to social media after noticing the ITV presenter’s face looked swollen, with some even speculating she was suffering from an allergic reaction.
“What’s happened to Lorraine’s face? Looks like an allergic reaction,” one worried viewer posted on X, while another added, “Hope you’re OK Lorraine, looks like an allergy that’s affecting your eyes.” Others questioned whether she had taken a fall, or if her makeup was heavier than usual, reported Metro.co.uk.
Now, Lorraine has put the rumours to rest—confirming that her ‘puffy’ face was actually the result of a rather unfortunate accident at home. Speaking to Loose Women’s Linda Robson, she admitted, “I have [got a black eye], I will explain.” She went on to reveal that the incident happened when she was rushing around the house, trying to do “too many things at one time really fast”.
“I had a massive basket of washing, couldn’t see, and I was going from the kitchen to the living room and couldn’t see,” she explained. That’s when disaster struck. “There was a wee step, and my slippers are too big also, and I fell over and fell onto a rhino!”
Cue confusion from the audience—until Lorraine clarified that it wasn’t a real rhino, but a big giant wooden rhino she had at home. “I put my face on it, and I thought, it would be fine, but I woke up this morning with the biggest shiner.”
Despite the painful bruise, she praised her makeup artist for doing an “excellent job” covering it up, although she admitted it was still “a wee bit sore”.
She also took the opportunity to shut down speculation about cosmetic procedures, laughing off the idea that she had had work done. “A lot of folks were saying, ‘Are you okay? Have you got allergies?’ Our viewers are so lovely! They were like: ‘You should try this!’”
“It’s not an allergy, it’s not fillers!” she assured fans. Lorraine, who recently celebrated 40 years in TV, also spoke about how much she appreciates the support of her loyal audience. “I’d like to keep on doing my show for as long as people want to watch,” she said in an interview with The Yorkshire Post.
She added, “I didn’t expect to still be here at 65, but I am so happy to be doing the job I love after 40 years. It’s wonderful, and it’s down to all the fantastic people I have worked with, my top team, and the viewers who have been so loyal and shown me such support.”
Thankfully, despite her unexpected run-in with a wooden rhino, Lorraine is in good spirits—though she might be a little more careful with the housework in future!
