Lorraine guest Arlene Phillips hails tragic Scottish teen as I'm A Celeb motivator

Dame Arlene Phillips appeared on Lorraine this morning and hailed Scottish teen Lily Douglas' tragic battle with cancer as her reasoning for going on I'm a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here!

The entertainment giant spoke highly of the late teenager on the morning programme, and could be seen choking back tears when mentioning Lily's fight with Ewing Sarcoma.

Speaking to stand-in host Christine Lampard, Arlene said: "“I did say before I went in that I would never do something like this, and I had to face my worst ever fear, snakes.

“But I had the most beautiful little girl, Lily Douglas, who has sadly passed away, as my inspiration.

“She is, without a doubt, the most fearless, child, or young teenager on earth."

Arlene also mentioned that showing her granddaughters that there was nothing to fear in life, and added: "When speaking to my granddaughter, I thought ‘ I will never let my granddaughters think that I am afraid of anything’.

"I have to be the person to show them that there's nothing to be afraid of as well.

“So I had a lot of reasonings for doing the show, but those are the two most important ones.”

Lily, 14, tragically passed away of cancer on January 23, and a public celebration of life was organised by her family, which was attended by both Arlene, and her other celebrity friend, Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi.

Arlene mentioned on the popular reality TV show I'm A Celebrity, that the Perthshire teenager was her main inspiration for the show in her exit interview.

She had said: "One of the bravest, most fearless girls is a little girl I know called Lily Douglas who has just won a Pride of Scotland award for courage and she's so fearless.

"I thought, here I am afraid of so many things. What better way can you push yourself than to do something like this."
