Loris Karius 'on verge' of shock Premier League return after Liverpool decision

Loris Karius is set for a sensational return to the Premier League after agreeing a deal to join Newcastle United.

Karius’ own departure from Liverpool was confirmed in the summer, with the German having not featured since the infamous Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid back in 2018. The German played 49 times for the club after arriving at Anfield from Mainz for £4.75m.

Now 29, and having not played at all since an unsuccessful loan spell at Union Berlin during the 2020/21 campaign, Karius looks set to make the move to the North East. The goalkeeper is expected to sign a short-term contract with the Magpies.

Having let Martin Dubravka head to Manchester United on loan, Newcastle have been in need of a new goalkeeper to sit behind Nick Pope after Karl Darlow picked up an injury. Multiple reports from across Europe are now claiming that Karius will sign a 'short-term contract' once he passes his medical at the club having aldrady agreed a deal.

Speaking on his Anfield exit back in June, Karius said: “There were ups and downs. It's part of the game, that's football, but I've developed as a person.

“I'll take my determination with me to my next job. It's about having a good feeling. The club can be in Germany, but also abroad. I just have to feel that the chemistry with those responsible is right, that they have a good feeling about me, and I have a good feeling with them."
