Lord Mayor of Dublin opens online book of condolences in memory of Private Sean Rooney

The Lord Mayor of Dublin has opened an online book of condolences in memory of Irish soldier Sean Rooney who was killed in Lebanon whilst on a mission with the United Nations last week.

Pte Rooney's remains arrived in Dublin Airport today on an Irish Air Corps CASA aircraft earlier today. Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy announced the opening of the online book of condolences this afternoon. All messages of sympathy will then be printed and passed on to the soldier's family.

Lord Mayor Conroy said: “On behalf of the citizens of Dublin I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family of Private Seán Rooney."

"Private Rooney lost his life serving the People of Ireland, the United Nations and protecting those who strive for peace across the world. My sincere sympathies go to his family, his army colleagues and all who knew him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam."

The book is open for members of the public to sign from from today Monday December 19 until Monday January 2.
