Loose Women viewers complain to Ofcom over Katie Piper's baby comments

Loose Women viewers turned to Ofcom to make complaints after Katie Piper made 'hateful' comments about another mum's parenting choices.

During a segment on the ITV show which addressed the way that hit Netflix show Wednesday has "brought goth style back into the cultural mainstream", a video was shown from one mum who had gone viral on social media for giving her home and her baby a gothic makeover. The clip showed that the mum had kitted out her daughter's nursery with black furnishings and toys.

Mum-of-two Katie was open-mouthed in shock while watching the video, and soon expressed strong opinions on the décor. "It's all black and dark. Babies don't like that," she argued to her Loose Women co-stars.

The presenter continued: "I'm just going to put it out there - it's giving me satanic vibes, it's giving me bad energy, it's toxic. I don't like it."

She later insisted: "The cot's a tomb! You can't put your baby in a grave!" The episode, which aired on December 22, sparked 62 complaints to Ofcom over Katie's comments.

Viewers took to social media to express their anger at the Loose Women star's remarks as the episode aired, with some saying they were "horrified" and "disgusted" by her words. One person wrote on Twitter: "How dare Katie Piper be so judgemental about how someone chooses to live and look! Shame on you!"

A second viewer remarked: "Goths are some of the nicest people, often more accepting of others and super friendly. Shame on you Loose Women, especially Katie Piper for spewing rubbish on such a platform, encouraging ridiculous stereotypes about a wonderful community."

"I'm absolutely disgusted with Katie Piper, she is supposed to stand for beauty within and her comments are nothing but ugly and hateful... this stereotype that goths are evil and satanic is so outdated," a third viewer added.
