The Loose Women panellists have told Brenda Edwards not to “beat herself up” following the news that her son died of a heart attack after taking recreational drugs.
SBTV founderJamal Edwards died at the age of 31 from a “sudden illness” at his home in Acton in February.
His mother Brenda revealed on Tuesday that she is in a “state of shock” as she called for “more conversation” about the use of illegal substances.
Her co-star Ruth Langsford became visibly emotional as she read out Brenda Edwards’ statement on Loose Women later in the day.
Another co-panellist Janet-Street Porter added: “The one thing I don’t want Brenda to do, I don’t want Brenda to beat herself up over this.
“I want her to understand she was the best mum she could have possibly, possibly have been...
“And we’re all here for you Brenda and I’m so glad you came into my life.”
Coleen Nolan added: “I didn’t realise how incredible his work was until he died. I think for Brenda, what has been hard about this, is that people won’t get the incredible work that he has done and that she is continuing to carry on.
“One thing that stuck in my mind when Jamal passed was something he put on Instagram is ‘The goal isn’t to live to forever but to create something that will’.”
Jamal Edwards was the founder of SBTV, an online urban music platform which helped launch the careers of artists like Dave, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and Skepta.
In a statement on Tuesday, Brenda Edwards said: “We have been so incredibly touched by the outpouring of love and support, and you are all helping us try and get through the unimaginable.
“I have sadly learned that the cause of Jamal’s devastating passing was due to cardiac arrhythmia caused by having taken recreational drugs and I wanted to address this myself to everyone who loved, admired and respected my son”.
