Ruth Langsford relived a terrifying moment she experienced on a train journey in the past, during a candid discussion on Tuesday's Loose Women.
Fresh from her well received return to This Morning a few weeks ago alongside Rylan Clark, Ruth was back at the helm of the Loose Wome n panel, on the second day that the lunchtime discussion show welcomed an audience back into the studio.
Half way through the programme talk turned to calls for more Transport Police on trains to protect passengers and whether Ruth and her colleagues Linda Robson, Brenda Edwards and Janet Street-Porter would be brave enough to confront any anti-social behaviour going on around them.. After admitting she'd be too scared these days to tell someone to 'be quiet,' Ruth said she thought more staff on trains, particularly at night, could only be a good thing if it would protect people from harm.

And it was then that Ruth recalled a anxious moment from her own past, which involved her being alone on a train carriage in London on her own at night. Explaining what happened, the popular presenter said: "I was young, I was only 16 and I was on the Tube in London and, exactly that, the carriage was full as my mum would always say 'get on a full carriage' and one by one people got off and this guy was sitting right at the other end of the carriage and as soon as it emptied, he strode down and he sat absolutely direct opposite me."
She continued: "I always remember, he was tall and had a long black coat and I was so frightened but trying to look confident, like 'hmmm hmmm hmm I'm confident' and every time I glanced he was just staring at me and then as soon as the carriage doors opened, I ran up the stairs. But I thought 'why would you do that?!' That's so intimidating to a young girl."
Ruth's story comes as EastEnders actres s Rose Ayling-Ellis is set to be involved in a harrowing storyline on the BBC soap before her exit, when character Frankie is harassed by a man in a club, before he follows her onto a train, leaving her worried for her safety.
