Loose Women's Kaye Adams branded 'too miserable' for presenting job and taken off air

Kaye Adams confessed on Friday's Loose Women that she was branded 'too miserable' for a presenting job by a former boss and taken off air as a result.

Scottish journalist and TV star has been involved with the ITV lunchtime show since it started 20 years ago, with her being a regular anchor on Loose Women since returning a few years ago.

She was at the helm again on Friday, when she was joined by Stacey Solomon, Linda Robson and Nadia Sawalha and it was during a discussion called 'Can a telling off be a good thing?' that Kaye opened up about criticism she received from an employer earlier on in her career.

The first panellist to offer a view was Birds of a Feather legend Linda who admitted she'd been reprimanded by a theatre director for turning up late to rehearsals and, it was after listening to her that Linda, that Loose Women anchor Kaye recalled a moment from her past, conceding: "Criticism is a funny word isn't it? Because we immediately bristle when we hear criticism now and people aren't particularly receptive to it," before explaining: "I remember an occasion, and of course it was me that wasn't smiling, when I was starting out in news reading and you know, it was a big deal for me and I was young and the boss took me in one night and basically took me off air and said you're too bloody miserable."

After apologising for her choice of words, Kaye continued: "He said you need to smile more and put some blusher on," as Nadia reacted: "So he didn't give you a chance? He told you that and took you off screen? See, I think that's too brutal. Isn't feedback about giving you constrictive criticism so you can hopefully improve and do better?"

Kaye did in fact admit that she thought her boss "did the right thing," joking: "Here I am 30 years later grinning like a Cheshire cat."
