Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter Reveals the One Meal She’d ‘Never’ Eat at Home

Janet Street-Porter, the ever-provocative media veteran, recently sparked a wave of playful criticism from her Loose Women co-stars by revealing the one indulgence she steadfastly avoids. The 78-year-old TV icon, renowned for her candid opinions and vibrant personality, admitted during a recent episode of the ITV show that she has a unique approach to desserts. Rather than succumbing to sweet temptations when unwinding at home, she opts for a very modest treat.

“I would never, ever eat a dessert at home,” she said on an episode of the ITV show this week. “Hardly ever.” Her remarks were met with immediate surprise from her fellow panelists. Taken aback, co-star Linda Robson asked, “What if you went out? Would you have a dessert then?” Janet’s response was characteristically offbeat.

She explained, “I wouldn’t be rushing to order one because what I think is… I mean, what I tend to do is I would have a bar of chocolate that is more than 70% and I’d break off two squares.”And then, I would only eat that after I’ve eaten the tangerines. So, what I do is sit down —” before Loose Women colleague Kaye Adams interjected with a humorous rebuke: “You are really annoying.” Laughing, Janet quipped: “I know, can you see my halo?”

This latest exchange is not the first time Janet has openly discussed her healthy eating habits. The celebrated broadcaster has long maintained that she does not believe in strict diets. Instead, she advocates for cooking meals from scratch and savoring everything in moderation. Reflecting on her philosophy, Janet previously told the Mirror in 2017: “I don’t believe in diets. I am not a fan of banning wheat, dairy, or alcohol – I hate the word ‘ban’. I eat everything. But we should be eating food we’ve made from scratch. I love a good fish and chips every now and again but just don’t have a huge plate.

“Childhood obesity is happening because we don’t have enough cookery lessons in schools. They need to begin as soon as kids start school and kids need to be shown that it’s fun. Cooking teaches you to be calm, how to measure things out and it slows you down.”

Janet’s healthy lifestyle choices resonate across Loose Women, where other co-hosts also share their nutritious tips. For instance, Ruth Langsford, 64, has gained attention on Instagram with her innovative superfood recipes, including her popular “upside-down salad.” In a video last September, she explained, “So, basically, I put everything in layers in one of these [glass tubs], which means that when I tip it out the lettuce is on the bottom and everything else that I want is in layers,” adding, “Anyway, you get the gist.

“So, basically I put kitchen roll in the bottom [of the tub] because then any kind of juices from the tomatoes and cucumber soak a bit into that, so the whole salad doesn’t get soggy.” She captioned her post with, “I take this to work most days….stops me grabbing unhealthy, processed food. Even when you make a healthy choice and buy a salad, in my experience, they’re mostly leaves!!

“This way you get a good, decent portion of salad and you get to put all the things you like in it!” Janet’s revelations and the ensuing banter highlight the show’s blend of humor and candid lifestyle confessions, keeping audiences both entertained and inspired by real-life healthy choices.
