Loose Women's Janet Street-Porter causes outrage with Toby Carvery comments

Janet Street-Porter caused outrage by blaming Toby Carvery for the country's obesity levels.

The Loose Women panel discussed a divisive topic today that warranted a wave of disgust from the studio audience. According to a recent survey, aside from the typical Sunday dinner, the British public enjoys pouring gravy on unusual meals including rice, cakes and even chocolate.

Giving their taste buds a test of a more tolerable example, the panel tucked into a classic fry-up but with beef gravy on top. Janet Street-Porter was the first to condemn the combination before Coleen Nolan tried easing her into the concept.

Referencing Toby Cavery, the popular roast buffet, Coleen said people are fond of drenching their plates in gravy. Janet quickly snapped back that she had the "misfortune" to once eat at the venue which started to ruffle her fellow panellist's feathers.

Coleen said: "How can you say that about Toby Carvery it's fantastic." Brenda Edwards added: "When you get in there there's, like, so much food."

Hesitating before issuing her reply, Janet said: "And that's why Britain's obese." The comment sparked a wave of gasps throughout the audience while the panel turned their backs on her.

Brenda said she had to step in to correct Janet as she was "coming in hot" but Janet laughed the comment off and joked further about the plate of food in front of her. Interrupting both of them, Coleen wrangled the conversation into a silence as she took the show to an ad break before tensions could rise any further.

The ECHO has approached Toby Carvery for a comment.
