Loose Women's Denise Welch predicts clash as Nicola Sturgeon set to appear after mask rule break

Denise Welch has predicted things might get a bit heated on the Loose Women panel this week as Nicola Sturgeon is set to be a guest on the show.

Scotland's First Minister hit the headlines over Easter weekend after she was filmed breaching the country's face mask rules, which instructed people north of the border to continue to wear a covering indoors, in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus. Such laws in England had been abolished some time ago, but were only lifted in Scotland on Monday. However, Sturgeon was captured without a mask while in a shop on Saturday.

Police Scotland confirmed they had spoken to the First Minister in the aftermath of her rule break, and in a statement she said: "This is what they would have done with anyone else in these circumstances, and they were absolutely right to treat me no differently to any other citizen. I explained that the error was inadvertent and the police have confirmed that the matter is closed.

"While the law no longer requires face coverings to be worn, I will continue to do so in circumstances where this can help reduce the risk of infection, and I encourage everyone to do likewise."

On Monday, Denise let slip that Sturgeon will appear on Loose Women on Wednesday and, predicting that there could be some fireworks ahead given that her outspoken co-star Carol McGiffin will be on the same show, Denise tweeted: "Guess who’s on @loosewomen on Wednesday…..Nicola Sturgeon. Guess who’s on the panel…… @McGiff." Like Denise, Carol has been very vocal with her opinions on the coronavirus pandemic and Government restrictions. And, just like Denise, viewers are hoping and anticipating things might get rather heated.

One responded: "Omg!! Come on @McGiff! Give her some...can’t wait to watch!" Another reacted: "I haven't watched Loose Women since GB News started but i will probably turn in for this." Others posted popcorn GIFs in anticipation of what might be to come, while others suggested questions Carol might want to ask and one Carol fan told Denise: "Omg I can't wait. I hope they don't try to stop @McGiff and let her be her. He he. Would be even better if you was also on too."
