Denise Welch has shared her delight at landing a top theatre role, alongside a British TV legend, who was one of the most recognisable faces on the small screen back in the 1990s, with a number of her former Coronation Street co-stars thrilled by her big news.
While Denise is of course best known these days for being a regular panellist on Loose Women, not to mention the iconic mam of The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, she is no stranger to treading the boards, having appeared on stage in productions like Calendar Girls, The Water Babies and Sunday for Sammy and was recently confirmed to be taking on the part of The Queen, when Diana the Musical, makes the switch from Broadway to London at the end of this year.
And Geordie star Denise had some more big theatre related news to bring her social media followers at the start of this week, when she announced that she will be appearing alongside Matthew Kelly, the Stars in their Eyes presenter, turned critically acclaimed actor in a brand new play - The Gap - at the famous Hope Mill Theatre.

Revealing all on her Instagram grid, with a flyer for the show, Denise wrote: "So excited to announce this venture: Matthew Kelly and I in a new Jim Cartwright play for @hopemilltheatre," before going onto tease a few plot details, as she added: " We meet Walter and Coral who haven’t seen each other for 50 yrs and are reunited after a phone call for one magical night."
A number of her TV pals were quick to react to Denise's big news, with another former Coronation Street star, Angela Griffin, telling her: "I’ll be there!! Amazing. Can’t wait to see you in this," and Wetherfield favourite Sally Dynevor, famous to millions as Sally Webster/Metcalfe responding: "This will be amazing can’t wait to see you both."
Another one of Denise's famous friends, former X Factor and Loose Women host, Kate Thornton, was equally over the moon for her, writing: "Brilliant! Can’t wait to see you both in this," with Emmerdale actress and Sunday for Sammy counterpart, Laura Norton, posting: "Amazing."
