Loose Women's Denise Welch a grandmother for the first time as she breaks baby news on ITV show

Denise Welch has announced she has become grandmother for the first time on Loose Women, while also telling her colleagues on the ITV show how she would like to be referred to in her new family role.

Friday's edition of the lunchtime discussion show was only a few moments old when host Charlene White offered the spotlight to Denise to deliver her big baby news and the former Waterloo Road star revealed that she and husband Lincoln Townley were celebrating after his son Lewis and his partner Lizzie welcomed a little boy into the world.

Denise continued: "I can't say much more as you know that thing when they haven't yet done the photo and everything....so I'll do that as soon as I can."

Talk on the Loose Women panel then moved onto what Denise will be known as in her new role as grandparent, with the North East actress confirming she'd gone for the very Geordie 'nana,' explaining: "When you have blended families, you have to share the baby out between so many people; so I've gone for nana.

"My mum was nana and I had a nana. I selfishly wanted Lincoln to be 'grompa'. In the North East we say 'grompa' so I suppose that would be spelt G R O M P A. But he's going to be grandad and Lewis' mum Bev, she's going to be nanny and Lizzie's mum and dad are just thinking about what they are going to be."

Denise was very excited last year when she shard news of Lewis and Lizzie expecting a child with her followers on Instagram. Posting a photo of their ultrasound, she wrote: "‘Congratulations @lewtownley and @elizabeth_townley_cope on your first baby. We are excited.’
