Loose Women's Carol McGiffin under fire from viewers over Boris Johnson defence

Carol McGuffin has felt the wrath of Loose Women viewers after playing down Boris Johnson's 'rule breaking' during a discussion on the ITV panel show.

Soon to be outgoing Prime Minister Johnson received a standing ovation from his Conservative peers in the House of Commons on Wednesday, as he took part in his final PMQs as leader, but many Brits are still very much reluctant to forgive him for the Downing Street parries which were held when lockdown restrictions were in place.

It has materialised that at a time when the country was in the grip of the Covid pandemic and people were being separated from their loved ones, a number of gatherings were held in Parliament, with both Johnson and potential new Prime Minister, RIshi Sunak, among those who received fines from the ;police as a result.

Earlier this month, Johnson announced his intentions to step down as leader of the Conservatives, and as the race to be the new resident of Number 10 heats up between Sunak and Liz Truss, the Loose Women panel discussed whether the Tories who got on their feet for Johnson a day earlier were 'faking their feelings.'

Carol remarked: "They always clap Prime Ministers when they make their exit. They actually clapped Tony Blair, I mean, seriously," to which co-star Linda Robson remarked: "I wouldn't have clapped him!"

Carol continued: "Exactly! They just clap people who've done much worse things than Boris, you know all he did was have a bit of cake and then maybe a little party. He didn't start a war did he?"

At the head of the panel, host Charlene White responded: "Well, that's ;politics Carol," but plenty of people watching at home weren't quite so blasé with their reactions. Taking to Twitter, one fumed: "‘All he did was have a bit of cake’, really? That’s what Carol thinks is the only issue with Boris? Jesus."

Equally annoyed, another posted: "I was shocked that carol appears to be totally clueless about Boris cake and a party while patients died without their loved ones everyone locked up choice of heating and eating poor government management lies cheating .wake up carol," with a third tweeting: "Oh joy, Carol and Boris loving Linda."
