Loose Women's Carol McGiffin addresses concern after waking up 'like a tomato'

Loose Women panellist Carol McGiffin appeared on the ITV1 show make-up free on Thursday, March 2 after waking up with a "seriously red" and itchy face. At the start of the episode, Kaye Adams said: "Carol, you’ve had a bit of a drama haven’t you?"

"I have yeah, I know," Carol responded: "Something’s happened to my face." The 63-year-old then revealed it was hit or miss if she would be on the programme, but she told viewers "the show must go on".

Addressing concerns Carol said: "Something has happened to my face. It actually looks like I've had a cosmetic procedure and I've not told anybody but I haven't. I just woke up and my face was like a tomato, a seriously red face, itchy, so I've got no make-up on because I thought if I put make-up on it is going to make it worse".

Fellow Loose Women presenter Kaye Adams said that Carol had taken an antihistamine, hoping this would reduce the redness, to which she responded: "I did yeah, which made me feel a bit weird.

Carol added: "It's not pleasant and I'm fine not to have any makeup on." Many fans praised Carol for appearing on the show without any make-up and showing her natural skin.

One said: "@loosewomen Carol Thank you for appearing make up free with a skin condition. So many people go through life stressed and embarrassed because of skin problems. You today, “this is my skin today, it’s a nuisance but it’s not getting in my way”.

Another added: "Good on Carol, women shouldn't have to coat themselves in make up, or feel like they have to #loosewomen" and a third said: "Good on Carol for carrying on regardless of her skin issue. Many wouldn’t and would have gone into hiding if even a spot appeared #LooseWomen".

Recently on Loose Women, panellist Janet Street-Porter said that her fourth marriage was a "mid-life crisis" and a "cry for help" that she has "airbrushed out". She said: "Quite honestly, my first three marriages ended in very amicable divorces. It was only number four that I've airbrushed out that was a bit of a mid-life crisis and a cry for help."
