Loose Women's Brenda Edwards shuts down Kaye Adams during finance debate

Loose Women star Brenda Edwards was refreshingly honest about her financial status during an appearance on Thursday's show.

The 53-year-old joined Kaye Adams, Coleen Nolan and Denise Welch on the ITV panel when the conversation turned to money.

Kaye began the conversation by speaking about a man who has admitted that he married his wife because of her finances, and eight years later is starting to feel guilty.

Giving her opinion, Coleen said: "For me, him telling her is offloading his guilt onto her and what's he going to expect from that?"

Denise then said: "I think honesty is overrated if it's going to really hurt somebody."

Brenda argued: "I don't know if she doesn't actually know that he married her for her money and she just doesn't care, she's not bothered."

Coleen then commented: "But would it put you off? I wouldn't care if someone had money or not!" but Kaye didn't necessarily believe her and asked: "Can you honestly say that? Can you honestly, honestly say that? We're fortunate enough as individuals to be financially secure..."

"No I'm talking about... the way that I am now, like when I first met Ray, coz Ray was like a jobbing musician and sometimes he went months without working but I never once thought, 'well he hasn't got anything to offer me financially'," Coleen asked.

"It should not be about the money, I totally agree with Coleen,"Brenda then said. "You say that Kaye, but I'm not actually financially secure because if I don't work, I don't get paid and I've still got my bills and stuff to pay.

Kaye Adams claimed that all of them were 'financially secure' but Brenda was quick to correct her (ITV)

"Financially secure for me is when you're not having to think about where your next penny's coming from. I'm worried, even thought I've got a boot, I'm still working!

"For me, it's more about what that man can bring me. Can you bring me some security in my emotional state? In my happy state? And just be there and support me?

"It's not about the money, it's never been about the money and it never will be about the money for me, that's just a little added cherry on the cake if you've both got what you can enjoy together."

Brenda returned to work rather swiftly despite being rushed to hospital last month with a fractured leg after slipping on a wet pavement while in Blackpool.

Brenda took to Twitter at the time to share her injury details as she confirmed she had been forced to pull out of her role in the Chicago musical.

The much-loved TV star posted a photo of her leg on Twitter as she shared her frustrations over the unexpected mishap.

Alongside a snap of her lower leg wrapped up in a cast, Brenda penned: "Gutted I’ll not be able to do my two shows today @ChicagoOnStage after slipping on a dodgy wet pavement here in Blackpool and fracturing my fibula.

"I was ready to go on in a wheelchair, nowt wrong with my voice, but I can’t. Hope to rejoin the wonderful talented cast soon."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
