It seems like you will get a Starfield disc if you order a physical copy of the space game, despite some confusion over the matter. Starfield maker Bethesda threw parts of the internet into confusion over the weekend, when the Bethesda support Twitter account said, apparently by mistake, that the game’s standard edition wouldn’t come with a physical disc.
The now-deleted tweet was in response to someone wanting to clarify after Microsoft said during the Xbox Games Showcase that the collector’s edition would not include a disc. That one has a game code engraved on an item in the set, along with a number of other collectibles.
The support account deleted the tweet, and a Bethesda representative confirmed to Polygon that the standard edition will include a physical disc. Granted, that doesn’t really matter if you own an Xbox Series S, since the console only plays digital games.
The question might seem odd, but separating digital and physical release dates or just straight-up not releasing games physically is becoming gradually more common. Nintendo released Metroid Prime Remastered digitally several weeks before the physical version became available, and Remedy Entertainment isn’t releasing a physical version of Alan Wake 2 at all, not for a while at least.
Remedy says the idea is that it lets them ship a more complete game, since they can deliver the latest version with launch day patches installed instead of printing a disc with an older version that may still have bugs.
Either way, if you’re buying Starfield’s standard edition, you’ll have your disc, and Bethesda promises The NASApunk adventure is the least buggy of all their games.
