Lonzo Ball’s first season as a Chicago Bull can both be considered a success and a disappointment.
Before Ball suffered a tear in his meniscus in late-January, he was playing some of his best basketball of his career. In 35 games this season, Ball averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.8 steals while shooting career-high 42.3% from 3-point range.
Following surgery on his knee, Ball was unable to ramp up his rehab due to discomfort in his knee, which ultimately ended his season prior to the playoffs, where the Bulls fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.
In exit interviews on Thursday, Ball expressed his desire to ‘run it back’ next season with the same group of guys.
“I would love to run it back. I was unhealthy, Caruso went down, Pat was out all the way till the playoffs, Zach was playing hurt the whole year,” Lonzo said of next season. “When we get healthy, I don’t see why we can’t run it back.”
The Bulls have some decisions to make, which really starts and ends with the resigning of All-Star Zach LaVine. Both the Bulls and LaVine have expressed a desire to come to an agreement, as the additions made last offseason by the front office certainly increased LaVine’s confidence in the organization.
