Longer nights bring in cold Liverpool weather

Cold weather has arrived and it's set to get cooler over the weekend and early next week.

As the longer nights draw in and the autumn weather begins, there will be chilly starts and cold nights on the forecast. The Met Office says in hilly areas, there may even be snow possible in the North from Monday.

Frost is expected as temperatures hit single figures in the evening and morning, with it dropping below 0 in some parts. Across Merseyside, temperatures will go below 5C over the weekend.

Today it is predicted to be wet and breezy, with some heavy rain at times. Into Friday, September 22, the rain may stop and it will be a largely bright day.

However more sunny spells and scattered showers are expected on Saturday and Sunday. It should turn breezy and increasingly cloudy on Sunday with early rain on Monday soon clearing to blustery showers and feeling much colder.

In the latest Met Office 10 day trend, Aidan McGivern said: “Across the UK temperatures are going to be below average for the second half of the weekend and into Monday as well as Tuesday.”

As temperatures will drop to low single figures and below zero for some overnight it’ll be cold enough for a touch of frost and some snow showers. But Aidan added the snow was nothing out of the ordinary: “It's really going to be over the tops of the Scottish mountains and there's nothing particularly unusual about that at this time of year.”
