Pictures of long queues on Snowdon's summit have sparked fierce debate with some advising mountaineers to look for a different peak. The weekend has been described as "one of the busiest" in history with arguments that the sight has "spoiled a beautiful place".
With the increasing number of visitors, the same weekend saw huge queues flock to the notorious Crib Goch ridge alongside a woman descending Yr Wyddfa in flip flops despite repeated warnings from mountain rescue teams.
Concerns for the popular tourist attraction have grown in line with the increasing footfall with critics arguing the popularity has ruined the appeal - describing the queues as 'worse than Alton Towers '. Get stories like this straight to your inbox with our newsletters.
Sharing the pictures in a social media page, Lona Roberts said "Never seen it so busy on the top of Snowdon before!" adding she had been a regular walker and visitor of the mountain and surrounding area.
"It was an unusual sight for me and I had not personally seen anything like it before" she said when speaking of her visit Saturday May 7
Whilst some people praised the British etiquette of knowing how to queue, many were displeased to see the long queues of people stretching over the peak.
Jared Whiting said "not a fan of Snowden, it's a tourist attraction with a cafe on it, about as far from the nature, solitude and peace mountaineering is supposed to bring with it. I would always aim for a different peak personally" whereas others welcomed the sight claiming it had benefits.
John Washington defended the tourist hotspot arguing "It's great that all of those people are getting fresh air and exercise, and hopefully spending money to help the local community. Don't knock it."
As increasing footfall faces the mountain so too have the rise in reported issues staining the mountain with repeated cases of rubbish being 'strewn across the mountainside' and even issues of human poo on the site.
